RAVENS @ CHARGERS 11/25/24
It's been almost 12 years since Jim Harbaugh found himself on the losing end of a postgame handshake with his older brother, John, at Super Bowl XLVII. Yet, the Harbaugh brothers are set to square off again as the NFL head coaches for the Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Chargers, respectively. With both teams in the heat of playoff contention, this isn't just any family reunion.
The Baltimore Ravens, led by John Harbaugh, are currently sporting a 7-4 record, while Jim's LA Chargers are hot on their heels at 7-3. John has emerged victorious in both their prior NFL encounters including the 34-31 victory at Super Bowl in 2012 and a Thanksgiving Day game in 2011, that ended 16-6 in favor of Baltimore.
Fast forward to today, and the anticipation around the brothers' upcoming face-off is palpable. Reflecting on the impending clash, John Harbaugh, 62, acknowledged that his opposing team was "extremely well-coached" and hailed his brother as "one of the best coaches of our generation."
Jim Harbaugh, 60, has certainly proven his mettle by leading the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship last season after nine years at the helm, before making his return to the NFL. John, meanwhile, has been with the Ravens for 17 seasons.
While the Harbaugh brothers are understandably the center of attention, both are keen to remind everyone that the focus should remain on the game itself - a pivotal AFC contest. The Ravens are just a game away from the first-place Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, while the Chargers trail the Kansas City Chiefs by two games in the AFC West.
Both teams will rely heavily on their quarterbacks - Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, a two-time NFL MVP, and Justin Herbert of the Chargers, who has solid stats of his own with 2,186 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.
Despite the brotherly rivalry, the players know that the game itself is the main event. The Chargers have dominated teams in the first half this season. They have not allowed more than 7 points in the first half all season. The Chargers have not been strong against the number, but they can accomplish something they haven’t done since 2007. The Chargers haven’t covered four straight home games since the ‘07 season. With last week’s win and cover, LA covered three straight home games for the first time since 2014.

Through 10 games, Herbert has been pretty efficient. He hasn’t had to do much as the Chargers rely on teh run more than any team in the NFL. Herbert has 13 touchdown passes in 10 games. He’s thrown just one interception. He’s had multiple touchdown passes in 3 of his last 4 games. With the total at 50.5, the books are predicting a pretty high-scoring affair tonight.
