RAYS @ YANKEES 7/29/25

The Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees will square off at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday in Game 2 of their early week series. The Rays took Game 1 yesterday. Drew Rasmussen pitched 5 innings and allowed just two earned runs and Junior Caminero hit a two-run homer to give the Rays a 4-2 victory.

This season, Tampa Bay and New York have faced each other twice this season. They played a four-game series in April and a three-game series in May. The teams are now tied 4-4 for the season.

In the month of July, the Rays are just 6-15. Cincinnati swept Tampa Bay in their last series. In their last ten games, the Rays have a 3-7 record. The Under is 6-3-1 in those last 10 games.

Joe Boyle, a right-hander, will start for Tampa Bay against the Yankees tonight. The 25-year-old allowed one run on one hit in three innings against the Chicago White Sox in his most recent appearance. In five appearances (19.0 IP), he has a 1.42 ERA and 0.63 WHIP, which includes a 2.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP while pitching on the road (9.0 IP). He is 1-0 overall.

With a 3.87 ERA this season, Tampa Bay's pitching staff has been strong. Pitching to a 3.85 ERA at home and a 3.90 ERA on the road, the staff has proven dependable no matter where they are. The Rays have also won a few games thanks to its lineup, which averages 4.7 runs at home and 4.5 on the road while ranking ninth in MLB in runs scored (4.6 per game). As Tampa tries to secure a postseason berth in the fiercely competitive AL East, that consistency may prove beneficial in the final stretch. Bryan Baker, RP for the Tampa Bay Rays, is doubtful for tonight’s game against New York due to a calf injury.

In its last series against Philadelphia, New York lost two of three games. In their last ten games, the Yankees have a 4-6 record and the Over went 5-4-1.

Max Fried will start for New York against Tampa Bay tonight. The ninth-year MLB pro gave up six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in his most recent appearance (5.1 IP loss against Toronto). This season, he has made 21 starts (127.1 IP) and is 11-4 with a 2.62 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He is also 4-1 at home with a 2.24 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in nine starts (52.1 IP).

Despite not being the season's favorite, the Yankees consider themselves to be strong contenders for the World Series. New York acquired Fried and veterans Paul Goldschmidt (.287 BA/.344 OBP/.768 OPS) and Cody Bellinger (.282 BA/.334 OBP/.843 OPS) a season after winning the American League pennant. The Yanks' rotation has been weakened by the long-term injury setbacks to starters Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt. Aaron Judge was recently placed on the 10-day injured list due to an elbow strain.

FREE PICK: MAX FRIED OVER 5.5 STRIKEOUTS

Fried has yet to hit his strikeout prop in July. In four starts this month, he has 3, 2, 5, and 2 Ks. In June though, Fried went Over tonight’s number in 4 of 5 starts. He’s actually hit this number in 5 of his last 6 home games, averaging 6.3 strikeouts per game. He pitched against the Rays on May 2. He went 7 innings, didn’t allow a run and struck out six. In four career starts against Tampa Bay, Fried is 4-0 with a 0.32 ERA. The Rays strike out an average of 8.32 times per game. Over their last three games, the Rays have whiffed an average of 9.67 times a game.
