RED SOX @ YANKEES 6/7/25

When the Boston Red Sox (30-34, 4th AL East) travel to the Bronx to play the New York Yankees (38-23, 1st AL East) on Saturday, one of the most intense rivalries in sports will be on full display. The Red Sox have lost 9 of their last 12 games and are now 9.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. One of their three wins in their recent downturn came on Wednesday when the Red Sox beat the Angels 11-9.

New York defeated the Cleveland Guardians 4-0 on Thursday behind ace Max Fried. The Yankees have won 8 of the previous 11 games overall and beat Cleveland in the final two games of the series. The Yankees have a 5½-game lead in the AL East.

In four hitting categories, Boston ranks among the top ten. Boston ranks ninth in terms of both batting average (.254) and on-base percentage (.325), while sixth in terms of both runs scored (303), and slugging percentage (.416). Rafael Devers has led Boston in hitting this season with 17 doubles, 12 home runs, and 54 RBI. With 13 home runs, Wilyer Abreu leads the team.

When it comes to quality starts, Boston ranks 12th with 24. The Red Sox pitchers are 20th with an ERA of 4.00. On Saturday, Garrett Crochet will start for the Red Sox. The left-hander has a 1.98 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts with a 5-4 record this season. Overall in MLB, the left-hander ranks second in strikeouts, fifth in ERA, and 21st in WHIP.

In four hitting categories, the Yankees rank among the top three. New York leads in slugging percentage (.462) and on-base percentage (.342), and ranks third in both runs scored (326) and batting average (.257). Aaron Judge leads the Yankees in batting average (.392), home runs (21), RBI (50), hits (89), and on-base percentage (.493). He is the front-runner for the AL MVP.

On the mound, New York ranks first with an opponent batting average of .216, fifth with a WHIP of 1.18, eighth with an ERA of 3.52. Yankees starting pitchers rank 15th with 23 Quality Starts. Max Fried leads New York with eight victories and a 1.78 ERA. In terms of strikeouts, Carlos Rodon leads with 98. Ryan Yarbrough will take the mound for New York tonight. The left-hander has a 2.83 ERA, 0.99 WHIP,  40 strikeouts and is  3-0 this season.

Although the Yankees are the best team in the AL East, New York's toughest games are against division rivals. In their last six division games, the Yankees have a 2-4 record. Boston starter Garrett Crochet has had a great start to his career with the Red Sox. The left-hander ranks fifth in baseball with an ERA of 1.98 and 21st with a WHIP of 1.06. With 101 strikeouts, the southpaw is second in the league.

Crochet has given up six earned runs in his last four starts, but the Red Sox only managed to score eight runs. Boston went 1-3 in those four Crochet starts. Crochet has pitched 82.0 innings this season. New York starter Ryan Yarbrough has impressive numbers but has only pitched 41.1 innings.

RYAN YARBROUGH OVER 4.5 STRIKEOUTS

Garrett Crochet is No. 2 in the majors in strikeouts, but Yarbrough actually offers the better value in this prop category. Yarbrough has only started five games this season. In his last three, he has gone Over this prop with 5, 7, and 8 strikeouts. His last two starts were quality starts against the Angels and Dodgers. Yarbrough will pitch against a Red Sox team that whiffs a lot. Boston ranks third in most strikeouts per game with 9.23. In the first game of the series last night, Boston whiffed 12 times.
