New York Giants vs New Orleans
The New York Giants are officially on tank watch, looking completely unthreatening against Tampa Bay two weeks ago, before struggling again against Dallas on Thanksgiving last week. Neither Tommy DeVito nor Drew Lock have offered anything useful in replacement of Daniel Jones, and the result has been a lackluster second half of the season for exciting rookie Malik Nabers, who started on fire.
The New Orleans Saints have also underwhelmed considerably, although, their 4-8 record somehow is keeping them within touching distance in the NFC South. They are just two games back of the division-leading Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and this fixture against the Giants gives them a great opportunity to add another win to the tally.
Whilst New York fans will undoubtedly already be turning their attention to the draft, the team on the field do at least have a couple of playmakers that New Orleans will need to be wary of. We have already spoken about how Malik Nabers has been less productive in the second half of the season, but he is absolutely not a player New Orleans Will want to take their eye off. He is still getting a lot of targets, and has at least 50 receiving yards in each of his last five games, and he is well overdue a touchdown, with his last one having come in week three. Perhaps this is the week that he can get it done, going up against a Saints defense that is giving up the fourth most passing yards per game, with 249.1.
The other player on the New York Giants offense who will fancy their chances this week is rookie running back Tyrone Tracy. With him and Devon Singletary operating as a useful one-two punch, the Giants have been able to produce 115.9 rushing yards per game, which is 15th best in the NFL. Whilst that might not be anything to write home about, you have to remember, this is the New York Giants, who are averaging a league-low 15.3 points per game. Tyrone Tracy has been one of their few success stories, and he should find room to work in this weekend against a Saints defense that ranks 26th in the NFL with 136 rushing yards conceded per game.
Whilst the New Orleans Saints have struggled to stop the run, they have at least been effective on the ground when they have the ball on offense. Their 131.8 rushing yards per game ranked 10th in the NFL, although, that production may take a hit moving forward due to the torn ACL suffered by Taysom Hill. Sophomore running back Kendre Miller is due to return from IR in this game though, and fans will be desperate to see him get some good run under his belt to see if he can unleash his potential.
The passing game has been hamstrung considerably by injuries all year long, but Derek Carr has played well, all things considered. He has six touchdowns and no interceptions over his last four games, including two games with a passer rating of over 125. With New Orleans having improved since the departure of head coach Dennis Allen, and the Giants spiraling into the off-season, anything but an easy victory here would be hugely disappointing for the Saints.
