AZTECS @ BRONCOS 11/1/24
Ashton Jeanty, a running back for Boise State, will continue his pursuit of the Heisman Trophy on Friday night when the No. 15 Broncos play San Diego State in a Mountain West clash. Jeanty has averaged 196.6 rushing yards over seven games for the Broncos (6-1, 3-0 Mountain West), rushed for an FBS-best 1,376 yards, and is second in the nation with 18 touchdowns.
Jeanty is over halfway to breaking Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders' 1988 NCAA rushing record (2,628). If the Broncos make it to the 12-team College Football Playoff, Boise State could play up to nine more games than the five remaining on their regular-season schedule. Last Friday, in a 29–24 victory over UNLV, Jeanty ran for 128 yards on 33 carries.
Last season, he led the Broncos to a 34-31 victory over the Aztecs with 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He ran for 212 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-30 loss to Colorado State three weeks later to set his single-game best. Since then, Jeanty has reached the 200-yard milestone three more times this year.
The Broncos are tied for first place in the conference standings with Colorado State, having won five straight games overall. Colorado State and Boise State do not play each other this season. The Broncos would have to place among the top five FBS conference winners in order to earn a spot in the CFP. Boise State jumped ahead of LSU and Kansas State with its most recent victory over UNLV, moving up from No. 17 to No. 15.
After throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown, Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen declared that the UNLV team was legit. The Orange’s only loss was in overtime to Syracuse. The Broncos' 27th consecutive season of bowl eligibility—the second-longest active streak in the country after Georgia's 28—was also made possible by the victory in Las Vegas.
The Broncos defeated Washington State 45-24 on September 28. The Aztecs (3-4, 2-0) lost 29-26 to the Cougars last Saturday night. With 13:39 remaining in the fourth quarter, San Diego State led 26–14, but the Cougars scored the next 15 points.
After suffering an ankle injury against Washington State, San Diego State quarterback Danny O'Neil missed two drives. O'Neil was replaced by Javance Tupou'ata-Johnson, who then came back and led the Aztecs to a touchdown drive that brought them within 14–12 late in the first half.

COACH RICK FREE PICK:
FREE PICK: ASHTON JEANTY UNDER 12.5 RECEIVING YARDS
Jeanty’s rushing prop total is set at 187.5. He didn’t hit the number last week. San Diego State’s run defense isn’t as strong as UNLV’s, but the Aztecs have given up 115 yards or less in 2 of their last 3 games. The better play is on Jeanty’s receiving total. Jeanty has only gone Over this number once all season long. He hasn’t hit this number in four of his last five games at home. Boise will focus on handing the ball to Jeanty, not throwing it to him.
