This line opened at San Jose State -2.5 before steaming to -4.5, but that changed once it was announced that Spartans WR Nick Nash would not be playing in the Hawaii Bowl against South Florida. Nash, an All-American, has opted out of the bowl game, but has not yet announced his intentions. Nash was a quarterback during his first four years at San Jose State before converting to wide receiver prior to the 2023 season.
Nash’s astonishing run to the college receiver triple crown holder certainly put him in the limelight. He led the nation with 104 catches, 1,382 receiving yards, and 16 touchdown receptions, making him San Jose State's maiden first-team All-American by consensus. Nash was also in the final cut for the Biletnikoff Award, which was ultimately won by Colorado's Travis Hunter.
Nash announced his intentions just last Wednesday. Spartans head coach Ken Niumatalolo said that Nash is all set to prepare for the NFL draft. Nash has still not made an announcement on whether or not that is the case.
The Spartans finished the regular season with a 7-5 record. Their passing game is what makes the offense go. Quarterback Walker Eget has thrown for 300 yards or more in four out of his six starts this season.
South Florida, on the other hand, has averaged 49.7 points in its victories. The Bulls scored 15 points or less in 4 of their 5 losses this season. Travelling approximately 4,700 miles from Tampa to Honolulu, coach Alex Golesh is ensuring that his players relish the location without hampering their football readiness.
With the return of Bulls quarterback Byrum Brown questionable after a seven-game hiatus due to an injury, Bryce Archie is projected to start the game. The Bulls also feature WR Sean Atkins who set a school record with 189 career receptions and is second with 2,063 receiving yards.
