Lamar Jackson has two NFL MVP trophies to his name, mirroring his count of playoff victories. The lack of more postseason wins remains a challenge for this dynamic Ravens' quarterback. In the upcoming AFC wild-card round, Jackson and the third-seeded Baltimore Ravens take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are seeded sixth.
Jackson's playoff record is 2 wins and 4 losses so far, with six interceptions and six fumbles (three lost). His playoff career has seen him throw six touchdowns and rush for an additional three. It's clear that the 28-year-old's performance needs to improve and errors need to diminish.
Derrick Henry, a star running back who's in his first season with the Ravens, will be a key tonight. He rushed an impressive 1,921 yards, the second-highest in the NFL, and scored 16 touchdowns, tying for the lead. Previously, Henry's contributions helped the Tennessee Titans reach the AFC Championship Game in 2019.
In the postseason meetings between the teams to date, the Steelers have won three out of four, with the most recent victory going to the Ravens, 30-17 in the wild-card round in 2015.
This season, the two games between the Ravens and Steelers ended in home wins for each team. The first game went to the Steelers 18-16, led by Chris Boswell's six field goals in November. In the December rematch, Jackson's three touchdown passes and Henry's 162 rushing yards led to a 34-17 victory for Baltimore.
As it stands, the Steelers are on a four-game losing streak and were outpaced by Baltimore late in the season. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wants his team to focus on this game, not the previous four. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, a Super Bowl winner with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013, carries a 9-7 postseason record and will have to play better for the Steelers.
Zay Flowers (knee) has been ruled out for the Ravens tonight, while the return of Deonte Harty (knee) to the lineup is uncertain. For the Steelers, star defensive tackle Cameron Heyward is expected to play while the presence of starting right guard Mason McCormick (hand) is questionable.
