VOLUNTEERS @ CRIMSON TIDE 10/18/25

Although Alabama didn't have a strong start to the season, the No. 6 Crimson Tide are looking fantastic halfway through the regular season. Alabama, which has won five straight games after losing to Florida State, will play No. 11 Tennessee in an SEC battle tonight in Tuscaloosa.

Following three consecutive victories over conference opponents, the Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-0) are one of three teams undefeated in SEC play, along with No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 5 Ole Miss. Impressive three-point victories over then-No. 5 Georgia on September 27 and then-No. 14 Missouri last weekend have been two of the team's road victories.

"It's not just the last three weeks, it's really the last five, six weeks since we dropped Week 1," stated Kalen DeBoer, coach of the Crimson Tide. "These guys just stick together in games, demonstrating their resilience. They need to keep it going because they are playing for each other.

For Tennessee (5-1, 2-1), the yearly Third Saturday in October game is also crucial as it attempts to maintain its hopes of qualifying for a conference championship game berth in the 16-team league. The Volunteers have won three in a row after losing to Georgia 44-41 in overtime on September 13. Last Saturday, Tennessee defeated visiting Arkansas 34–31.

Josh Heupel, the coach of the Volunteers, now hopes to lead his team past the Crimson Tide for the third time in the previous four encounters.

"Great rivalry game, historical game," Heupel remarked. "I'm excited for it and know it will be a fantastic atmosphere against a top football team. We must go out and prepare ourselves thoroughly.

The key to the Crimson Tide's success is quarterback Ty Simpson. Simpson is now regarded as a top contender for the Heisman Trophy after throwing several touchdown passes in each of the six games. He has thrown for 1,678 yards, 16 touchdowns, and one interception on 70.9% of his passes. Last week, Simpson scored three touchdowns as Alabama defeated Missouri 27–24, ending the Tigers’ 15-game winning streak at home.

Speaking of winning streaks, the Crimson Tide's 15-game home winning streak is the longest in the country.  That’s a result of Oregon's home loss to Indiana.

This season, Alabama has forced 11 turnovers while only committing two. Heupel is concerned about that fact.

"Well, we need to win the turnover battle, first of all," he stated. Simpson has demonstrated excellent football skills and made wise decisions. We need to go play the assignment sound. The quarterback needs to be put under pressure. That is a component of turnover creation.

This season, Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar has passed for 1,680 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

FREE PICK: JOEY AGUILAR UNDER 1.5 PASSING TDS

Aguilar could be in trouble tonight. Alabama’s pass defense ranks No. 3 in the nation. The Crimson Tide only gives up 136.5 passing yards per game. The Tide have won 10 in a row at home against Tennessee, so it’s not like they haven’t seen the Vols high-powered offense before. Two years ago in Tuscaloosa, Alabama held Tennessee to 20 points. Plus, it’s a revenge game as the Vols won at home last year. Aguilar has 14 TD passes this year, but he has thrown just one scoring pass in each of Tennessee’s last two games.
