AGGIES @ FIGHTING IRISH 9/13/25

This week, Marcus Freeman, the coach of Notre Dame, presented the idea of delayed gratification to his team. After losing to No. 10 Miami 27–24 in their season opener, the Fighting Irish are hoping to recover from their season-opening loss.

Notre Dame overcame a 14-point deficit in the game but lost after the Hurricanes made a 47-yard field goal with 1:04 left in the game.  Tonight in South Bend, Indiana, the No. 8 Fighting Irish (0-1) will play No. 16 Texas A&M (2-0). Freeman is focused on keeping the loss from becoming more serious.

"Outside of our building, you're evaluated off one thing, and that's wins and losses," Freeman stated. “However, within the building, we must remain mature enough to realize that the objective is not short-term success or failure. Realizing our full potential must be our main objective.”

The concept is also significant for Texas A&M. To try to exact revenge for a home loss to Notre Dame, the Aggies have waited an entire calendar year. This time, Mike Elko's squad is traveling north to one of college football's most iconic stadiums. The Aggies are prepared for the challenge, according to Elko.

"Obviously, the schemes are similar (as last year)," Elko stated. "They're firmly established in their identity and operations. A lot more was unknown last year. It was the first game in which Coach (Mike) Denbrock served as the offensive coordinator. As a staff, it was our first game.”

Last season, the Aggies lost to Notre Dame 23–13 before winning seven straight games. They have already defeated Utah State and UTSA this season, scoring more than 40 points in each game.

Marcel Reed, the quarterback for Texas A&M, has completed 66.1 percent of his passes for 509 yards, seven touchdowns, and no interceptions in two games. Notre Dame needs to figure out how to slow him down. In addition, he has rushed for a touchdown and 105 yards. According to Elko, Reed is healthy enough to play again after missing last week's game due to an injury.

The Aggies' top targets in the passing game are KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. Each of them has three receiving touchdowns.

CJ Carr will start at quarterback for the Fighting Irish for the second consecutive game. In his first start against Miami, he completed 19-of-30 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He demonstrated that he is capable and ready. Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love is also expected to have a heavier workload when facing the Aggies. In his first game of the season, he had 10 carries for 33 yards.

The Aggies offense is even better than last year when they led the SEC in scoring in conference games. Texas A&M is averaging 6.9 yards per play this season, a full yard better than last year. QB Marcel Reed has thrown for 7 TDs and he has some explosive receivers. CJ Carr proved that he can get it done too with two TD passes against Miami plus a rushing TD. Despite both teams having great defenses, the Over has cashed in 5 of Notre Dame’s last 7 games and 4 of the Aggies last 5.
