THUNDER @ TIMBERWOLVES 5/24/25
The Minnesota Timberwolves are aware that their chances of qualifying for the NBA Finals are dwindling. On Saturday night in Minneapolis, the Timberwolves will play Game 3 of the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder in an attempt to extend the series. The Timberwolves must defend their home court to prevent an early exit as the Thunder lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.
The Thunder have won the first two games by using smart play. They won Game 1, 114-88, thanks to a comeback in the second half. They followed that up with another win in Game 2, 118-103. The Thunder have won both games by double digits.
After the first two games of the series, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the Thunder with 34.5 points per game. In addition, he averages four rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. Gilgeous-Alexander, who also won the NBA's Most Valuable Player award, has had a memorable week. He commended Mark Daigneault, his coach, for leading the team and fostering his growth.
Gilgeous-Alexander's teammates are no different. As Chet Holmgren returns to his home state of Minnesota, he is scoring 18.5 points per game and Jalen Williams is averaging 22.5 points per game in the series.
Anthony Edwards has averaged 25 points and nine rebounds in the first two games of the series for the Timberwolves'. After shooting 23.5 percent from three-point range and 43.6 percent overall in Games 1 and 2, Edwards will look to improve his rhythm.
Throughout the series, three other Timberwolves players are scoring in double figures: Nickeil Alexander-Walker (12.5), Jalen McDaniels (14.5), and Julius Randle (17.0 points per game).
After having a rough game on Thursday, Randle is looking for a better performance in Game 3. He remained on the court during the most crucial moments of the third quarter on Saturday, even though he watched from the bench during crucial fourth-quarter moments.
Oklahoma City will likely continue its quest to force Minnesota turnovers. The TWolves have 10 more turnovers than the Thunder through the first two games of the series. That’s one of the reasons why Minnesota has been blown out by an average of 20.5 points in Games 1 and 2.
The Thunder have now won 6 of the last 9 against Minnesota. One saving grace for the Timberwolves - Oklahoma City has lost each of its last five road games.

Coach Rick FREE PICKS:
SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER UNDER 32.5 POINTS
SGA is a machine. He’s averaging 34.5 ppg in this series and he’s got five straight 30-plus point games. However, he has not cleared this prop in 5 of his last 7 games. Tonight is a do-or-die for Minnesota. To get the win, they are going to have to slow down SGA. The TWolves won’t shut him down completely, but they will make it much more difficult for him to get to 30. Denver did the same thing in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals. SGA scored 33 in Game 1 and 34 in Game 2. Facing a must-win, Denver held SGA to 18 points in a Game 3 Nuggets win.
