TWOLVES @ GRIZZLIES 4/10/25
The guidelines are very clear if the Memphis Grizzlies wish to stay out of the NBA's postseason play-in tournament. To finish above seventh place in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies need to finish the season with three straight victories.
Tonight's game between the Grizzlies (47-32) and visiting Minnesota (46-33) will put both teams in comparable positions. The Grizzlies will finish no lower than fifth if they can win their final three games. There is a logjam of Western Conference teams vying for a top-six finish as the season nears its conclusion. The eighth-place Timberwolves and third-place Los Angeles Lakers (48-31) are separated by just two games.
Memphis has some momentum heading into the final three games of the regular season. The Grizzlies defeated Charlotte 124-100 on Tuesday, their third consecutive road victory. Memphis dealt the Hornets their fourth consecutive defeat, but they did suffer a loss. Late in the first half, rookie Jaylen Wells was undercut by KJ Simpson during a dunk attempt, and ended up breaking his right wrist. Wells is a solid defender who had typically been assigned to guard the opposition's top scorer. Wells had started 74 games with an average of 10.4 points.
To lessen the impact, the Grizzlies might turn to 7-4 C Zach Edey, another rookie. Edey's late-season surge has been impressive. He had 17 points and 19 rebounds against Charlotte following a franchise rookie record 21-rebound performance at Detroit on Saturday. Against Charlotte, Edey played a team-high 31 minutes.
After a disappointing defeat to Milwaukee, Minnesota will try to get back on track. With ten minutes remaining against the Bucks, the Timberwolves had a 24-point lead, but they couldn't maintain it. The Bucks won 110-103 after rallying behind a 40-13 fourth quarter.
Before their matchup with Milwaukee, the Timberwolves had won five straight games, and even though they lost, they could still finish third in the conference race. Despite scoring 25 points, Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards only made 10-of-27 shots from the field against Milwaukee.
Memphis has won the two previous meetings this season. Both games were played in January. The Grizzlies won 127-125 on the road on Jan. 11 and then won again at home 108-106 on Jan. 20.

COACH RICK FREE PICK:
ZACH EDEY OVER 0.5 ASSISTS
The 7-4 Edey has been playing a bigger role for the Grizzlies recently. That role is going to increase with the injury to Jaylen Wells. So far in April, Edey is playing 30 minutes per game. That’s 9 minutes more than his season average. He also averages 1.0 assist per game. In his last 13 games, Edey has had at least one assist in 11 of them with multiple assists in 5 of those games. He’s gone Over this prop in 59 percent of his games this season and in the two games against Minnesota this season, he did not have an assist on Jan. 20 but had two in the game on Jan. 11.
