Tennessee Titans vs Washington Commanders

The Tennessee Titans pulled off an upset win over the Houston Texans in Week 12, which might spark a little added confidence before they face Washington this coming Sunday.

The Commanders suffered a miserable defeat at the hands of a sub-par Dallas Cowboys team, and will need to quickly gather themselves if they want to stay in the hunt for the NFC East. They’re now 7-5, having lost three in a row at the hands of the Steelers, Eagles, and Cowboys. Two games back from Philadelphia, this Sunday's game against the Titans is a must win.

Tennessee’s 32 points against Houston marked a new season high. Will Levis completed 75% of his passes on an 18 of 24 day, throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns, with one pick. But there lies the problem, another costly mistake, with a pick six going the other way and almost throwing the game. They have the second worst turnover margin in the league (-1.1), and those turnovers have proven costly far too often.

While the Titans offense ranks 28th in points per game (18.4), and 26th in touchdowns per game (1.9), their defense has been one of the league's most outstanding units all year, and largely kept them in close games.

They are the number two ranked team in yards allowed per game (276.4), third in yards per play (4.8), while ranking as the league's toughest team to throw the ball against. For a Washington Commanders offense that has sputtered in recent weeks, that could spell trouble.

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders had an undeniably hot start to the 2024 season, surging to a 7-2 record and competing for the top spot in the division. The heartbreaking loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers started the skid, and they’ve since dropped valuable games against two division opponents in the Eagles and Cowboys.

A lot of that can be attributed to a lack of balance with the offense, struggling to run the football with their backs against both the Steelers and the Cowboys, forcing everything onto their rookie quarterback. That isn’t helped by the injuries for both Austin Ekeler (concussion), and Brian Robinson Jr. (ankle), both of which are currently doubtful for Sunday’s game. and forcing Daniels to throw against the leagues number one pass defense could spell disaster for a Commanders team desperate to avoid a four game losing streak.

That said, the Commanders should still be respected as an offense. They’re still a top five unit, averaging 27.8 points per game and over 370 total yards. While the running backs have struggled in recent weeks, Jayden Daniels is very capable of picking up good yards on the ground. Washington still features in the top six in yards per rush and rushing yards per game because of that. So the question is; how capable is Jayden Daniels of putting the entire offense on his back against one of the NFL’s most stubborn defenses?
