The NBA’s rivalry week intensifies Wednesday night, as the Golden State Warriors meet the Sacramento Kings for the second time in less than a month. While both teams head into the game on different paths, tonight’s game should be one of the best on the NBA card.
In their previous meeting, on January 5th, the Kings won in San Francisco, grabbing a comfortable 129-99 win. The Warriors were swept by Sacramento's avalanche of 3-pointers, with Malik Monk, Kevin Huerter, and Keegan Murray combining to hit 12 of the total 19. Double-double contributions from Monk and Domantas Sabonis further solidified the Kings' victory.
The Kings, under interim coach Doug Christie's guidance, will be attempting to wrap up a perfect 3-0 homestand following victories over the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards. The team boasts an impressive undefeated home record under Christie.
The Warriors, on the other hand, should be wary of Sabonis's 3-point prowess. Despite only making two three-pointers in the four-game season series against Golden State, and only one in the recent win, his shooting beyond the arc has since improved dramatically. Sabonis has found a rhythm this season that he hasn’t found before.
But this rhythm is what the Warriors seem to be missing, following a brutal 125-85 defeat against the Boston Celtics on Monday at home. Golden State shot just 34.8% overall from the floor. That included a disappointing 26.4% on three-point attempts.
Stephen Curry, the Warriors' star, attributes their inconsistent performance to a loss of spirit when the scoring slows down. He warns that such lack of competitiveness could prove fatal against tougher opponents.
To compound their troubles, Golden State is dealing with injuries to key players. Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Kyle Anderson, and Brandin Podziemski are all on the latest injury report. In contrast, Sacramento is pretty healthy as they managed to fire on all cylinders in their recent 123-100 win over the Wizards.
The Kings are on one. They are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games and 6-0 SU in their last six at home. Golden State has just three wins in its last eight games. The Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last five games and just 1-4 SU in their last five against the Kings.
