CARDINALS @ BREWERS 6/12/25
The Milwaukee Brewers will host the visiting St. Louis Cardinals in the first of a four-game series on Thursday, marking pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski's eagerly awaited Major League debut.
In 13 games with Triple-A Nashville, Misiorowski, 23, has a 4-2 record and a 2.13 ERA, making him the best pitching prospect in the Milwaukee system. The Brewers are already showing their faith in the 6-foot-7, Blue Springs, Missouri native, despite the 2022 second-round draft pick making just 14 starts in two seasons with the Nashville Sounds.
The Brewers have lost two of their last three games, including two against the Atlanta Braves, coming into tonight. Milwaukee struck out 36 times and only managed seven runs during the series loss to Atlanta. During its six-game homestand, which continues tonight against the Cardinals, the Brewers have only scored 11 runs.
After losing its fourth straight game on Wednesday, capping a three-game sweep by the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis is also looking to turn the tide. Over the course of the four games, the Cardinals' pitching staff gave up 27 runs.
St. Louis has a 10-12 record since winning 12 of 13 games in May. They are now five games behind the Chicago Cubs, who lead the National League Central. The Cardinals lead the Brewers by a half-game going into the four-game series.
The Cardinals will start veteran right-hander Sonny Gray (7-1, 3.35 ERA) for the 14th time this season, hoping to build on his recent run of success. In a victory over the Texas Rangers on May 31, Gray pitched seven innings and recorded ten strikeouts. He has not given up a run in 13.1 consecutive innings. Following that performance against the Rangers, Gray pitched 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out five in a 5-0 St. Louis victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
The 35-year-old Gray has started 17 games against Milwaukee in his career. He is 4-5 with a 3.23 ERA. He faced the Brewers on April 26 and gave up three earned runs in six innings. The Cardinals would go on to win the game 6-5 on a walk-off homer by Nolan Arenado.
