CELTICS @ SIXERS 10/31/25

Last season is already becoming a faint memory thanks to the Philadelphia 76ers. When the Sixers host the Boston Celtics tonight in the NBA Cup tournament, they hope to maintain their undefeated start to the season.

In sharp contrast to their 24-58 campaign from the previous season, which was their worst in almost ten years, Philadelphia has won its first four games. Naturally, the Sixers suffered greatly from injuries in 2024–25, including Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey's chronic illnesses.

Maxey is off to a scorching start, making 47.4% of his 3-point attempts and averaging 37.5 points and 8.3 assists. He scored 39 points as Philadelphia overcame the host Washington Wizards to defeat them 139-134 in overtime on Tuesday. The Sixers had a 19-point deficit in the second half and were down five points with less than two minutes left in overtime.

"We don't want this to become a habit, but it does say that we're tough," Maxey stated. "To be honest, we're in good shape and we're resilient. Being able to play like that, recover, repeat it several times, and go into overtime of a back-to-back and still win was impressive.

Due to his ongoing knee injury, Embiid is currently only able to play 20 minutes per game. But in his last two games, including a 25-point effort against the Wizards, he has made the most of those minutes.

Regarding the minutes restriction, Embiid remarked, "It's really annoying, but as long as we win, I'm happy." I may experience some sort of emotion if we lose and I feel like there was something I could have done. We're winning. I don't really care, therefore.

Adem Bona, a second-year center, and rookie VJ Edgecombe continue to contribute positively for Philadelphia. Quentin Grimes, who finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks, also had his best all-around performance of the year.

Maxey, Edgecombe, and Kelly Oubre Jr. all played more than 40 minutes, while Grimes only played 39.

"We're waiting to see if we can get some other guys back," stated Nick Nurse, the coach for Philadelphia. "We just have to go and play as hard as we can and go from there."

Boston, meanwhile, has won two in a row after losing three in a row to start the season. On Wednesday, Jaylen Brown scored 30 points, Sam Hauser added 21 points, and three other Celtics recorded double-doubles as the team easily defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 125-105.

Role players like Josh Minott and Neemias Queta, who combined for 21 points and 28 rebounds against Cleveland, are essential to Brown and the Celtics.

According to Brown, "It's just one game," "We still have a lot of basketball to play. We're still learning and working through some issues. However, we're headed in the right direction.

The teams have already met once this season. On opening night, Maxey and Edgecombe combined for 74 points, helping the Sixers win 117-116 in Boston.

GAME TOTAL OVER 234.5

The Sixers are averaging 129.3 points per game and, not surprisingly, have cashed on the Over in all four of their games this season. On the other end of the floor, they give up 123.8 points per game, which ranks 25th in the NBA. This is also an NBA Cup game and point differential matters. Teams have the incentive to push the pace and run up the score, which you’ll see tonight. Both Philly and Boston are in the top-4 in made 3-pointers and Philly actually leads the NBA in 3-point FG percentage. These two already played once this season and that game hit 233 points.
