The Knicks kept their hopes alive with a Game 5 win and are now focused on forcing a deciding Game 7 in the Eastern Conference finals. Game 6 is tonight in Indianapolis.
Just like that, Indiana is now the team facing the pressure. The Pacers have a 3–2 lead in the series and can end it with a victory tonight. Clenching a spot in the NBA finals for the first time since 2000 would be much easier in Indianapolis tonight. If the next force a Game 7, that game would be back in New York.
in Thursday’s game five, the Knicks never trailed. They shut down Pacers star Tyrese Halliburton, played great defense, and forced 20 turnovers in a 111-94 win.
Jalen Brunson had 32 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Knicks. Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 points and 13 rebounds despite playing through an injured knee.
If the Knicks won force a Game 7, they’re going to have to shut down Halliburton once again. He was outstanding in Game 4 with 32 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds without a turnover. It was the first time in NBA postseason history that a player achieved a 30-15-10-0 stat line. He also made five three-pointers and had four steals in the 130-121 home win.
Game 5 was a totally different experience for Haliburton. New York pressured him from the outset and mixed its defenders to keep Halliburton off-balance. He had just eight points, six assists and two rebounds. Halliburton took just eight shot, making two.
New York's Mikal Bridges led the Knicks defensive charge but he had plenty of help. The Knicks also outscored Indiana 60-34 in the paint in Game 5. Indiana's edge in fastbreak points was limited to 16-15. Over the first four games, the Pacers held a whopping 65-23 advantage.
Jalen Brunson hit 12 of 18 shots to earn his fourth 30-point outing of the series. He is averaging 33 points per game in the series. Towns averages 25.4 points and 11.8 rebounds.
For Indiana, Haliburton averages 21 points, 10 assists and six rebounds a game. Pascal Siakam adds a 23.6-point average per game in the series.
