The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for a thrilling Tuesday encounter, following possibly the biggest trade in NBA history. The momentous trade saw Lakers securing Luka Doncic as their future star, while Anthony Davis joined Mavericks with the hopes of giving their immediate playoff aspirations a boost.
However, fans will only see half of that trade in action on the court tonight. While Doncic is busy finding his stride with the Lakers after a calf injury, Davis is currently sidelined due to a left adductor strain. Both stars had pre-existing health concerns when they joined their new franchises.
Doncic seems to be leaving his calf strain behind, having displayed his best performance yet as a Laker. In a solid 123-100 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, he topped the Lakers' scorecard with 32 points and collected 10 rebounds. Since Doncic joined LeBron James on the court, the Lakers have an even 2-2 record.
Doncic’s scoring average since putting on the Lakers jersey stands at 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists, whereas James has been averaging 28.7 points with 8.9 rebounds and 7.4 assists in the seven games post-trade. Austin Reaves, another key player, has been thriving with the Lakers, securing 23.9 points, 6.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds across the nine games in February.
Mavericks fans received some solace over Davis' trade when he made a significant impact on his debut on Feb. 8, scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. However, an abdominal injury resurfaced that has kept him off the court for the last five games.
Post All-Star break, the Mavericks have a 1-1 record, the latest being a 126-102 loss against the Golden State Warriors. P.J. Washington and Kyrie Irving were the lead scorers, and their focus now shifts to the matchup against the Lakers and their former star Doncic.

Since the Luka trade, the Mavs’ scoring load has transferred to Irving. Since Feb. 1 when the deal was done, Irving is averaging 27.1 ppg and has four games of 30 or more points. Irving had 17 in the Mavs most recent game, a loss to Golden State, but in his three prior games he went off for 35, 42, and 30. In a huge game against his former teammate, Irving will shine.
