The Mets will start Blade Tidwell tonight. Tidwell is one of the Mets top pitching prospects. He was called up from Triple-A Syracuse where he had a 4.76 ERA in 13 appearances this season. Tidwell made his MLB debut on May 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up 6 earned runs in 3.2 innings.
With the largest contract in MLB history, a 15-year deal worth $765 million, the Mets stole slugger Juan Soto from the crosstown rival Yankees, making them the talk of baseball during the offseason. In order to strengthen their already potent lineup, the team also re-signed first baseman Pete Alonso.
New York's bullpen is a strength (3.07 ERA and 1.24 WHIP this season). Despite missing the injured Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas, the pitching staff is outperforming. The Mets seem ready to contend for the postseason once more in 2025. First, they’ll have to shake off this current losing streak.
On Thursday, Philadelphia concluded a four-game road series against Miami. The Phillies took three of four games from the Marlins. In their last ten games, the Phillies had a 7-3 record and averaged 5.1 runs per game.
Right-hander Zack Wheeler will start for Philadelphia against New York tomorrow. In his last start, the 35-year-old pitched six innings and struck out nine batters while limiting Toronto to two runs (one earned) on four hits. This season, he has made 14 starts and is 7-2 with a 2.76 ERA and 0.89 WHIP, including 4-1 at home with a 2.66 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.
The Phillies are too important for bettors to ignore, even though the Mets may have received more offseason hype. With All-Stars all over the field, they have one of MLB's best lineups. The majority of the team has returned, and Philadelphia added Max Kepler and Jesús Luzardo to the roster in the offseason. With a 24-13 record, the Phillies have proven difficult to defeat at home.
