CLEVELAND @ NY YANKEES (NYY -170, 7)
F5 UNDER 4.5
Both teams will throw their ace tonight. That means Tanner Bibee pitches for the Guardians and Gerrit Cole goes for the Yankees. Cole pitched twice against Kansas City in the ALDS. He went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA. In nine playoff starts with the Yankees, Cole is 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA. He has four career playoff starts against Cleveland. He's a perfect 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA.
Bibee has two postseason starts this season. He doesn't have a decision, but he didn't allow more than 2 earned runs in either start. He also didn't pitch past the fourth inning in either start. With a strong Cleveland bullpen, Bibee might not have to pitch more than four innings tonight.
Four of the last five Yankees games have gone Under the total. Eight of the last 11 Guardians games have done the same. Both Cole and Bibee have seen the F5 Under go 5-2 in their seven starts since the beginning of September. Playoff baseball and two stud pitchers is a recipe for another.
TROY @ SOUTH ALABAMA (SA -13.5, 54.5)
OVER 54.5
South Alabama's offense can run up and down the field. The Jags have one of the top rushing attacks in the country. They average 202.5 rushing yards per game this season. That has helped them average over 36 points per game. Troy's defense gives up almost 28 per game and ranks in the bottom 30 in the nation against the run and pass.
The Jaguars defense is even worse. South Alabama gives up 29 points per game and their pass defense is one of the worst in the nation. The Jags allow 338.2 passing yards per game, which ranks 131st out of 134 FBS teams. Both teams have trended Under recently but with these two defenses on the field tonight, expect lots of points.
LOUISIANA TECH @ NEW MEXICO STATE (LT -10.5, 50)
LOUISIANA TECH -10.5
Make no mistake. This will be an ugly football game. Louisiana Tech has some momentum coming into this one after having beaten Middle Tennessee last week. New Mexico State has zero momentum after having lost five in a row. The Aggies also gave up 50 or more points in each of their last two losses. New Mexico State's defense ranks at or near the bottom of just about every defensive statistical category you can think of.
The New Mexico State offense isn't much better. The Aggies score just 18.5 points per game, which ranks 121st in the nation. Louisiana Tech's offense has looked much better since the Bulldogs went with Evan Bullock at quarterback. In last week's 48-21 win over MTSU, Bullock threw five touchdown passes.
Louisiana Tech is 6-1 SU in its last seven games against New Mexico State. Despite being on the road, I like the Bulldogs to ride the momentum of last week's win and eventually pull away from the Aggies in the second half.
