NY YANKEES @ CLEVELAND
YANKEES F5 ML
Luis Gil will battle Gavin Williams in this one. Neither has pitched since the end of the regular season. I've got to side with Gil as the better option here. He's got the better numbers - Gil 15-7, 3.50 ERA vs. Williams 3-10, 4.86 ERA - on the season. Plus, Williams has really struggled at home this season.
Williams and the Guardians didn't win any of his starts at Progressive Field this season. Williams went 0-7 with a 6.55 ERA at home this year. Cleveland has lost 7 of his last 8 starts, including the last 4 in a row. In those 8 starts, the Guardians went 1-6-1 on the F5 moneyline. I'll stay away from the Cleveland bullpen and bet the F5.
OREGON @ PURDUE (ORE -28.5, 60)
PURDUE +28.5
No. 2 Oregon is coming off a huge win over Ohio State last week. Dillon Gabriel is on fire and tonight he faces a Purdue defense that is absolutely terrible. The Boilermakers give up 46.8 points per game. That's 131st in the nation! They are 130th in total defense (514.6 ypg) and 103rd in pass defense. Oregon is going to have success on offense.
I don't trust the Purdue defense at all, but what I do trust is Purdue QB Ryan Browne. That's because I've coached him. Yes, as you know, Coach Rick is an actual coach and one of his best over the past few years was Browne. Last week in his first college start, Browne threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 118 yards. He led a Purdue comeback that almost beat Illinois last week.
Oregon has had some struggles on defense, especially in the red zone. The Ducks allow a score on 93.8 percent of opponent's red zone possessions. And then, there's this. In 2018, a No. 2 Ohio State came to West Lafayette to face a 1-5 Purdue team. The Boilermakers pulled off a dramatic upset. I don't think Purdue can beat Oregon, but I do think Browne and the offense can score some points. The Boilermakers covered last week and I like them to do it again.
FRESNO STATE @ NEVADA (FRS -3, 49.5)
OVER 49.5
Neither of these defenses is very good. Both teams give up around four touchdowns per game. Fresno State allows 27 points a game; Nevada gives up 29. Fresno State QB Mikey Keene has solid numbers this season, but tonight he has one goal. Don't throw interceptions! He has 8 on the season and tonight he'll face a pretty suspect Nevada secondary.
Nevada struggles against the pass on defense. The Wolfpack ranks 111th in passing defense, allowing 269.7 yards per game. Last week, Nevada actually gave up over 600 yards of total offense to Oregon State. Somehow, the Wolfpack still managed to win that game.
On offense, Nevada is rolling right now. The Wolfpack has run for 300 or more yards in 2 of their last 3 games and in those 3 they put up 42, 31, and 49 points. All three games went Over the total. Three of Fresno State's last five games have gone Over the total and 4 of the last 5 between these two teams have also gone Over.
