GUARDIANS @ BRAVES 4/12/26
The Cleveland Guardians (8-6) and Atlanta Braves (9-5) wrap up their three-game interleague series tonight at Truist Park. After Atlanta took the opener 11-5, Cleveland responded with a dominant 6-0 shutout yesterday. Tonight’s rubber match features a fascinating pitching duel between young right-hander Tanner Bibee and veteran southpaw Chris Sale.
The Braves enter this matchup as significant favorites, and for good reason. Atlanta’s offense remains one of the most potent in the majors, averaging 5.50 runs per game (5th in MLB). While they were shut out yesterday, this unit rarely stays quiet for long, especially at home where they are 5-2 this season. Chris Sale takes the mound for Atlanta, and he has been historically dominant at Truist Park, boasting a 15-2 career record with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.002 WHIP across 26 appearances at the venue.
Cleveland’s offense, by contrast, has struggled for consistency, ranking 23rd in the league with just 3.6 runs per game. Tanner Bibee has shown flashes of brilliance, including seven scoreless innings against Atlanta in 2024, but he is still searching for his first win of 2026 and faces a much tougher task against a Braves lineup that leads the league in several advanced categories.
While both teams have the capability to put up big numbers, the pitching matchup and recent trends point toward a lower-scoring affair. Chris Sale’s elite track record at home is a major factor here. He has struck out 191 batters in 158.2 innings at Truist Park. On the other side, Tanner Bibee has maintained a solid 3.29 ERA through his first three starts of the season.
Statistically, both teams have trended toward the Under recently, with both Cleveland and Atlanta seeing the Under hit in 8 of their first 14 games (57.1%). Atlanta’s pitching staff has been elite, ranking 2nd in MLB in hits allowed (83) and 2nd in runs allowed per nine innings (2.69). With two starters capable of deep runs and high strikeout totals, the Under offers the best value on the total.
Matt Olson has been the model of consistency for the Braves' offense. Over his last 5 games, he has gone Over 0.5 Hits in all 5, and he has maintained a 90% hit rate over his last 10 contests. His season-long performance is equally impressive, recording at least one hit in 13 of his 15 games (86.7%).
Olson also has a strong history against Cleveland. In his two matchups against them in 2026, he has hit the Over 0.5 Hits in both games, and he went 3-for-3 against them in 2025. While he is 0-for-3 in his career against Bibee, his current form and overall 1.07 mean hits per game this season suggest he is due to find grass tonight.
The 2023 NL MVP is starting to find his rhythm. Acuña has recorded a hit in 4 of his last 5 games (80%) and 7 of his last 10 (70%). Most importantly, he has been perfect against the Guardians recently, hitting the over in 100% of his matchups against them in 2026 with a mean of 1.5 hits per game.
Acuña’s underlying metrics are encouraging. While he is 0-for-3 career against Bibee, those at-bats featured an average exit velocity of 103.7 MPH and a launch angle of 25 degrees, indicating he is making extremely hard contact. In a high-leverage Sunday night environment, expect the Braves' lead-off man to set the tone and go Over 0.5 Hits.
While Sale has been excellent at home, he has gone Under 6.5 Ks in 60% of his last 5 games and 66.7% of his starts this season. In his last start against the Angels, he managed 7 strikeouts but struggled with efficiency, allowing 6 runs in just 4 innings.
The Guardians' lineup is notoriously difficult to strike out. They currently rank 11th in the majors in strikeout avoidance, and key hitters like José Ramírez (8.6% K rate vs Sale) and Steven Kwan (0.0% K rate vs Sale) have historically made elite contact against him. Sale’s mean strikeout count this season sits at 5.33, well below tonight's line.

FREE PICK: UNDER 7.5
Chris Sale starts at home where he has been outstanding for Atlanta. He is 15-2 with a 2.38 ERA at Truist Park. He had an awful start last time out, but it was on the road. Expect him to bounce back tonight. Sale has decent numbers against the Guardians and the last time he faced them, he dominated. In 2024, Sale faced Cleveland at home and pitched 7 innings allowing 1 ER in an Atlanta win. Tanner Bibee starts for Cleveland and while he hasn’t gone deep in games, his ERA is 3.29. Both teams trend Under as both rank in the top-5 in runs allowed per game. Atlanta is No. 2 (2.87) and Cleveland is 4th (3.80). The Under has hit in 8 of Cleveland’s last 11 games and the 4 of their last 5 on the road. The Under is 9-1 in the last 10 games at Truist Park and 5-1 in the last 6 against Cleveland at home.
