The Giants won each of the first two games of this series. SF crushed JP Sears in Game 1 and went on to win 9-1. Last night, the Giants got a bases-loaded, walk-off walk to win 1-0. Today should be a different story.
Jeffrey Springs starts for the A's and he is in great form right now. After an April that saw him pitch to a 7.66 ERA, Springs has settled down in May. In three starts this month, Springs is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA. He's coming off his best start of the month. Springs pitched 7 innings against the Dodgers last week. He gave up 6 base hits and just 1 earned run as the Athletics went on to win 11-1.
The Giants will go with veteran Justin Verlander who has not been the sharpest this season. He is 0-3 with a 4.31 ERA overall. He has given up a ton of hits and baserunners this season and the Giants have lost 5 of his last 6 starts.
The A's are just 1-5 SU in their last six games and 1-4 SU in their last five against San Francisco. However, the A's are 14-11 SU in road games this season and they have the pitching advantage today. Springs should be able to keep this one close enough for the A's to get the run line cover.
