The Astros have won four straight series coming into this one. The Athletics somehow managed to sweep the Kansas City Royals on the road over the weekend. Now, the A's return home to their little league field to contend with a pretty hot Astros team.
Lance McCullers Jr. gets the start for Houston. His record is nothing special. He's 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Both of those numbers would be considered high by starting pitcher standards. The league average is around 4.00 for ERA and 1.20 to 1.30 for WHIP.
Still, McCullers is working back from an injury that cost him the better part of two seasons. The Astros have actually won 4 of his last starts. One of those was a quality start - 6 IP, 3 ER - against the A's, a game in which McCullers struck out 12.
Now, here's the deal with this one. McCullers has a high ERA and WHIP in a ballpark notorious for high-scoring games. Mitch Spence is 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA and starts the for the A's. Still, the Astros are a pretty heavy favorite at -155.
