Last night in Houston, it was an Astros spot. They had the advantage going against Rangers Suarez. The Astros managed to score the game's only run in a pitcher's duel 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Tonight, the pitching advantage leans heavily toward the Phillies. Ace Zack Wheeler takes the mound and he brings his 7-2 record and 2.61 ERA. He's been even more impressive lately with three starts in a June and a 1.06 ERA. He's allowed just 3 ER over his last three starts, covering 17 innings. He's also missing a lot of bats with 7+ strikeouts in each of those three games. Wheeler is fifth in the majors in strikeouts with 118.
The Astros counter with LHP Colton Gordon, who has pitched well more recently, but still owns a 4.54 ERA. His splits indicate he pitches worse at home where his ERA is 5.31 and opponents bat .294.
The bigger issue is that Philly has been hitting lefties very well over the past 30 days and for the season. The Phillies have won 9 of their last 12 games and they've averaged 5.5 runs a game in that stretch.
