The Rays let one get away late in the game last night and lost 6-4. If you remember from MLB Player Performance yesterday, I advised bettors to stay away from this one because of some weird line movement.
Tonight, the Rays are favored again and the line has remained steady in favor of Tampa Bay. That's because the Rays have Shane Baz on the mound. All the guy does is win. The Rays have won each of his last seven starts. In June, Baz made five starts. He went 4-0 and had a 3.26 ERA.
The bigger thing is that the Rays' bats support him. In those five games in June that Baz started, the Rays scored 42 runs. Baz gave up 5 ER to Detroit, but Tampa Bay still won the game 14-8.
The Rays have been crushing LHP - .318 batting average and an .824 OPS over the last 15 days against lefties. Jeffrey Springs starts for the A's tonight. He's been inconsistent all season long. Good start against Cleveland, which is terrible against lefties; bad start against Detroit which hits LHP.
The A's are still awful on the road and the Rays have been one of the hottest teams in MLB as of late - 17-9 in their last 26 games, 16-5 in their last 21 at home.
