It is Senior Night at Akron and it's also a big rivalry game. These two teams play every year for the Wagon Wheel Trophy which the Zips have won the last two seasons. You can bet they don't want to let it go, especially at home on Senior Night.
Kent State is one of the worst teams in the country, but they have played better over their last few games. They finally did decide on a new head coach, promoting Mark Carney from interim head coach to full-time status.
The Golden Flashes are still one of the worst teams in the nation. They rank 127th in the FBS in scoring. They average just 18 points per game. Kent State struggles to run the ball, averaging just 88 yards per game. That prevents them from sustaining drives.
Now, Akron isn't that much better, but the Zips have won their last two games. They are a decent defensive team, especially in the red zone where they ran 11th in the nation. the defense has forced 17 turnovers this season with 10 of those coming in the last three games.
Kent State is not a great road team. They have lost 19 straight away from home. Add that to Senior Night, rivalry game, and one step closer to bowl eligibility and I like the Zips.
