When the Golden State Warriors play the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night in San Francisco, Quinten Post will be introduced to one of the NBA's most intense rivalries. Post is a native of the Netherlands who attended Boston College and Mississippi State in his college career. He has made six appearances for the Warriors since making his NBA debut on December 27 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
He scored 20 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists in Thursday's 131-106 victory over the Chicago Bulls. That was by far the best of his six appearances thus far. He became the first 7-footer in Warriors history to make five or more three-pointers in a single game. Post scored 15 of his 20 points from beyond the arc.
Post dropped to the 52nd pick in last year's draft, even though he made 50 three-pointers at a 43.1 percent success rate during his time at Boston College. He signed a two-way contract and has participated in more G League games this season than NBA games. Post attributed his shooting ability to being in the right place at the right time. Playing alongside Stephen Curry, the human magnet, doesn’t hurt either.
In a prior trip to San Francisco on Christmas Day, the Lakers defeated the Warriors 115-113, but Post has never faced them. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Kevon Looney, the Golden State centers in that game, have a combined to shoot 10-for-63 from three-point range in their careers.
In the holiday spotlight, Lakers star big man Anthony Davis only played seven minutes before claiming a left ankle injury and missing the remainder of the day. With 31 points and 10 assists, LeBron James was the top scorer.
The Lakers' brief flight to San Francisco is essentially a stopover before they begin four Eastern Conference games in six days in Charlotte on Monday. Los Angeles defeated the Boston Celtics 117-96 on Thursday to win four of five games.
Davis would be thrilled to see another player his size on the Lakers roster by the time the team gets back home.
