BRAVES @ CARDINALS 7/10/26

The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are set for a high-stakes clash at Busch Stadium tonight. With the Braves holding a narrow three-game lead in the NL East and the Cardinals looking to climb the ranks of the NL Central, this matchup features a premier pitching duel between veteran southpaw Chris Sale and right-hander Kyle Leahy.

The Braves enter this contest as favorites, and the statistical profile heavily supports a road victory. Atlanta recently secured a dominant 10-5 win over the Pirates, maintaining their cushion at the top of the division. The primary edge tonight lies on the mound with Sale. Sale has been elite this season, particularly when pitching away from home. In 8 road starts, he has hit the Over on his strikeout projections 100% of the time, averaging 8.0 strikeouts per game in those outings.

St. Louis, while competitive, has struggled against elite left-handed pitching. The Cardinals' roster has very limited experience against Sale, with only 5 combined plate appearances resulting in a .000 batting average and a 20% strikeout rate. Furthermore, the Braves' offense remains potent, recently bolstered by the breakout performance of Jim Jarvis, who hit his first career home run in the Braves win over the Pirates yesterday. With Sale's dominance and a lineup that can produce runs in bunches, the Braves are the definitive choice to win outright.

While both teams possess capable hitters, tonight’s environment favors the pitchers. Busch Stadium is ranked as the 22nd most hitter-friendly park in MLB (PF 97), meaning it significantly suppresses scoring, particularly home runs (PF 77). Sale’s season average of 7.0 strikeouts per game and his 1.10 WHIP suggest he will keep the Cardinals' baserunners to a minimum.

On the other side, Leahy has shown he can navigate the Braves' lineup effectively. In 18 career plate appearances against current Braves hitters, he has limited them to a .222 batting average. While the Braves' offense is dangerous, the combination of a pitcher-friendly park, Sale's high-efficiency road splits, and Leahy's familiarity with the Atlanta core points toward a lower-scoring affair. The Under 8.5 provides a comfortable margin given the elite pitching on display.

TOP PLAYER PROPS

Sale has been a strikeout machine, and his 5.5 line tonight is significantly lower than his recent performance metrics. Sale has cleared this mark in 9 of his last 10 games and 4 of his last 5. More impressively, he has a 100% hit rate on the Over for strikeouts in his 8 road games this season, averaging 8.0 per game in those contests.

The Cardinals' lineup is relatively unfamiliar with Sale's deceptive delivery, which usually leads to high chase rates early in the game. Given that he is averaging 7.0 strikeouts per game on the season, asking for 6 tonight is well within his standard operating procedure.

Ozzie Albies is one of the most consistent contact hitters in the Braves' lineup. He has recorded at least one hit in each of his last 5 games and 8 of his last 10. His season hit rate stands at a robust 69.23% across 91 games.

Albies has also performed well against St. Louis recently, hitting the Over on this prop in 2 of his last 3 matchups against them. When playing as a visitor, his hit rate remains high at 73.91%. Facing Leahy, whom he has seen before, Albies is a prime candidate to keep his hitting streak alive and go Over 0.5 Hits.

Despite the tough matchup against Sale, Jordan Walker has been the most consistent bat for the Cardinals lately. Walker has recorded a hit in 4 of his last 5 games and a staggering 9 of his last 10. He is currently averaging 1.2 hits per game over his last 10 outings.

Walker has also found success against Atlanta specifically, clearing this 0.5 Hits line in 2 of his 3 games against them in 2026. While Sale is dominant, Walker’s current form suggests he is seeing the ball exceptionally well, making him the most likely Cardinal to break through for a base hit tonight.

If you're looking for a value play, look no further than the rookie Jim Jarvis. Jarvis has been a spark plug for Atlanta since his recall from Triple-A, hitting .316 (6-for-19) over his last five games. He recently made headlines with a 397-foot two-run blast against the Pirates, marking his first big-league home run.

Jarvis has hit the Over 0.5 Hits in 4 of his last 5 games and is 1-for-1 in his limited action against the Cardinals this year. With his "elite glove and athleticism" earning him consistent starts, his confidence at the plate is at an all-time high. At near-even money, this is a fantastic play for a player currently in a "breakout" phase.

FREE PICK: CHRIS SALE OVER 5.5 STRIKEOUTS

Two things could scare anyone away from this one. 1) The line is set at 5.5, which is low for Sale. 2) St. Louis ranks fourth in MLB in fewest Ks per game at 7.71. The Cardinals have the second-lowest K rate vs. LHP this season. But, Sale is a strikeout-dominant pitcher who ranks among the top-20 MLB pitchers in strikeouts and averages 10.9 K/9. As stated, St. Louis ranks 4th in fewest Ks per game. Sale has faced 5 of the top-8 teams in this category. Toronto ranks third. Sale struck out 6 Blue Jays. The Giants rank 5th and Sale whiffed 10. LAD (6th), KC (7th), and MIA (8th) struck out 7, 6, and 8 times against Sale. Plus, other than 4 ABs between two Cardinals (Nootbaar & Velasquez), the Cardinals have never faced Sale. Advantage pitcher.
